Reading the story about Whole Child Leon...Courtney Atkins opening anecdote about the teen mom with the infant on the cold night? Would you have stopped and asked her if she had somewhere safe and warm to go? I just stepped down as a board member for Capital Area Healthy Start after serving 3 years. I sat on the infant mortality case review board talked about in a different article this morning. Whole Child Leon is a great program but I still think we need a Childrens Services Council. Want to do something really amazing with sales tax extension funds? Spend it to provide direct services that will improve the lives of women and children in our community. We have too many groups with overlapping missions and too little information sharing without a comprehensive, coordinated plan to accomplish the goals we all say are important. Dont misunderstand me, this isnt a shot at Whole Child - it is a general sense of frustration I have with the circles I have seen our community run in over the 19 years I have called North Florida home.
