Day One - United Nations - Commission of the Status of Education International Womens Day by Erna Grasz I was fortunate to have the honor of representing Asante Africa on a Panel with 2 other powerful women, Michele Ozumba (CEO of Women’s Funding Network) and Julie Abrams ( Past NFP CEO and Active Development Coach) The three of us were facilitated a highly interactive workshop on The changing face of global philanthropy and implementation in support of women’s and girl’s causes. We discussed the changing trends with Corporations, Larger Granting organizations and Individuals as well as how we have to support the Indigenous NGO organizations in the home countries that many of us serve and partner with. The core messages that came out of the collective conversation include: • Transactional fundraising is dead while the world is moving toward greater connection the work on the ground • Data Data Data – Measuring Impact is critical in all the work tht we do, this includes qualitative and quantitative • Relationship Credibility is essential to succeeding and thriving- Build it, protect it, honor it • We are all a part of a greater ecosystem regardless of what our specific cause is- be a thought leader, be aware of what is going on in that eco-system, participate in it, know what your colleagues and sister organizations are doing in it • Advocate for each other- this is becoming the norm- Funders are asking for donor and colleague references • Work from a place of abundance, not scarcity – we are all better together than apart And these are just a few of the key take aways that I noted. I am sure my fellow panelists and the session members will be happy to add to this list as well. We definitely saw a need for this type of workshop to be offered on the West Coast as well. The collaborative energy in the rooms was stimulating and for a moment, we were able to lift up from the task of raising funds and remember why we love what we do for our causes in “Allowing Women and Girls to Shape the Future”. Life is good.
