Day three of Halloween Week has us reaching for the garlic! In 2006 and 2007, entomologist Jennifer Zaspel and her team discovered two populations of vampire moths in eastern Russia. This article from 2008 describes the moths bloodlust when experimentally offered a human hand: … the insects drilled their hook-and-barb-lined tongues under the skin and sucked. (Ok, ok, we might be exaggerating a bit with bloodlust. Still. *Hook-and-barb-lined tongues!*)
