Days 3 & 4: The days are blurring together around here leading up to tomorrow. As long as Nadezda keeps on top of the pain shes doing relatively well. Although she has had several bouts of nausea from all the medication. Being nauseas is very challenging when youre suppose to remain still and on your back. As she approaches 96 hours in a supine position surgery cant come soon enough. Shes starting to go a bit stir crazy and its becoming harder for her to calm her thoughts. Shes amazingly brave but certainly apprehensive about whats to come. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) at 3:00 but there is a good possibility that it wont get going until a bit later depending on the surgeries before her in the day. The teams are anticipating surgery to last 4-6 hours so it will be late into the evening before shes out of the operating room. Most likely she will then go to ICU for the remainder of the evening. As indicated in an earlier post there will be a general surgery team and a neurosurgery team. We are extremely grateful for the expertly assembled teams being lead by Dr. Jamie Baisden and Dr. James Wallace as they are very familiar with severe spinal trauma injuries. Nadezda is in good hands. The general surgery team will open for the surgery, move all the vital organs out of the way for the neurosurgeon and then once the neurosurgeon is done the general team will come back and close. Earlier today, the general surgeon, Dr. Wallace explained his role as that of a bus driver, My job is to drive the bus to its event and then after the event my job is to get everyone home safely . The neurosurgeons are responsible for finding all of the bone shards and gather them up, removing the disc as needed, placing the titanium cage, placing the rods and fusing the 3 vertebra together. It will be tedious, delicate and precise work. We pray for the surgery teams to have generous hearts, clear minds and steady hands.Heres to a good nights sleep and a joyous tomorrow, let the healing begin......... Your kind words, thoughts, prayers, healing energy, cards, flowers, balloons, food and smiling faces have meant the world to Nadezda and my entire family! Your generosity is amazing. My apologies that we have not responded individually to everyone, please know that we have a hug waiting for each and every one of you.
