De la Angela Gramada cetire: Dear friends and colleagues, Liliana - TopicsExpress

De la Angela Gramada cetire: Dear friends and colleagues, Liliana Popescu and Octavian Milewski have drafted a letter of support for Euromaidan in Kyiv. We decided to make it a Polish-Romanian initiative, for which reasons I kindly ask you to express your support for the initiative. It is meant to be a civil society initiative in order to stimulate more activism in the public sphere for this very important process taking place in Ukraine these weeks. We hope to publish it in the beginning of the next week. In case you are supporting the initiative we would like to ask you to write down your name and affiliation in comments. I copy-paste the draft of the letter (which we will correct before publishing it). If you have any particular suggestion, please feel free to express it. Thank you in advance! Joint Romanian - Polish civil society letter of support for the Ukrainian protesters and activating the strategic Romanian - Polish partnership within the EU. The protests occuring in Kiev and in other Ukrainian cities in the lst two weeks are of an utmost importance for the region bordering EU. After more than two decades of statal and societal construction, Ukraine, our common neighbour is facing a fundamental choice: either stay in the grey area of postimperial underdevelopment stage or get integrated in the European family of peace and prosperity. The Ukrainian people made a choice in favour of the European Union, the street large protests are showing it. We are greeting the roundtable discussions initiated between the govenment and opposition resentatives. However, Ukrainians are in dire need of support and solidarity and this is the main reason why we decided to write this letter.Ukrainian citizens displayed heroic behaviour and civic maturity during the past two weeks, as well as a genuine inclination towards the European Union. Meanwhile, they are living under the menace of the establishment of a cleptocracy that may dump them into a suicidal adventure for their country and for the region. The neighbours of Ukraine in the EU, Romania and Poland, have an important stake in Ukraines stability, security and democracy, to the extent that the situation in Ukraine is affecting their own security, stability, and democracy. The issue of Ukraines association to the EU is of an utmost interest for Ukrainians as well as for Poles and Romanians. Therefore, it ought to be of utmost importance for the EU. In this context, we believe the governmental representatives of Poland and Romania ought to get allied and act together within the EU, as a proof of the strategic partnership between Romania and Poland. It is notorious that among the new East Central European Member States, Poland has proven to be the most active within the EU and we appreciate this. Romania has been perhaps, the most active with respect to supporting the Republic of Moldovas performance within the European Neithbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership as well as in multilateral formats. The authors of this letter appeal to the two governments, Polish and Romanian, to work together and even try to bring onboard other East Central EU Member States in order to secure a more active and efficient involvement of the European Union in order to bring Ukraine closer to the EU, in order to sign the AA and the DFCTA. We believe that such a concerted effort of our governments would directly serve the security, stability, and democracy in our countries, in our region and in our European Union.
