Deactivation Of All Teams, Is It the Way Forward For A Brighter Lone Star? By Augustus Audekina-Doe The Liberia Football Association has with immediate effect deactivated all of its teams from all international competitions. The decision by the LFA came barely after the returned of the Senior National Team (The Lone Star) from Lesotho following its dismal performance in a 2-0 away defeat in the African Cup of Nations first preliminary round. According to the Communication Director at the local Football House, Henry B. Flomo, the decision will affect the Senior National Team, the U-23, U-20, U-17, and the female Team. But, many football followers are worrying about the manner in which the LFA is treating the dream of the National teams and wonder whether the decision is the best way forward in the development of football in Liberia. Apart of the Senior National Team (Lone Star) and the National U-20 squad that have dropped out their respective competitions, the U-17 and the Female National team are yet to play their own competitions. But Mr. Flomo despite all of the concern remain firmed to say that the LFA as with immediate effects de-activated all team under it tutorship until they are ready, due to the fact that the LFA is not prepare. The LFA spokesman added that with the de-activation of the teams in all categories, all players are discharge to their respective club due the fact that the National League is about to commence effective October this year. Of recent, a football veteran, Josiah N. Johnson (JNJ) blamed the failure of the Liberian national football team Lone Star to progress on the international scene because of the decision made by former President Charles G. Taylor to dissolve the entire national team 13 years back. “This decision which he believes is hunting the present Lone Star,” he said. The former Mighty Barrolle and Lone Star guru said former President Taylor’s decision was due to the country’s failure to qualify for the 2002 World Cup after being beaten by Ghana. He believes Mr. Taylor did not have the interest for the African Cup of Nations competition because the desire was to get Liberia to the World Cup. Mr. Johnson argues that there is nowhere in the world that a National Team can be dissolved but is dissolved by itself. Mr. Johnson is with the view that if the country had four to five players to play alongside George Weah, they would have now been in the position to guide the younger players.
