Dead Railroad Walking may be appropriate for this section of former Erie RR at Latimer, a little north of Warren, Ohio. Latimer was where the EL Youngstown bypass (1st Sub?) crossed the NYC (PC) Ashtabula to Youngstown, Ohio Youngstown Line. Both lines became Conrail property on April 1st, 1976. Once Conrail stopped running through trains on the EL it saw fit to eliminate the diamond here by constructing a connection from the PC to the EL and remove the diamond. The first view is looking west down the former EL, and Im standing on what was the EL right of way. Note the stick rail connecting track. The other view is looking east down what was the EL to Transfer and eventually Meadville,Pa. While the line is still considered active, this section from Latimer to Cortland sees little if any traffic these days. With the ore to Warren gone because the mill shut down and the Lordstown, Ohio stone trains gone due to the rerouting of them, trains are pretty much non existent except for maybe a work train. The Ohio Central serves a few customers up to Cortland from Warren but thats about it. So how long before this little section is gone? Who knows, but I would hate to see yet another piece of EL history head for the scrapyard.
