Deadly Crash: Names released in deadly I-94 crash: Traffic was backed up for several miles on I-94 after a fatal crash between a semi-truck and a car on I-94 in Berrien County left two people dead. Dispatchers told NewsCenter 16 the crash happened at 4:38 p.m. shutting down westbound lanes between mile markers 23 and 27 and limiting eastbound traffic to just one lane. Sunday night, Undersheriff Chuck Heit with Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept. confirmed two people died in the accident. Officers from the Lincoln Charter Township Police Dept. responded to several 911 calls of a head on collision between a passenger vehicle and a semi tractor-trailer. When they arrived, it was determined from witnesses that the 2004 Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound and swerved to avoid a piece of tire in the roadway. After swerving, the car struck a box truck on the right heading in the same direction. The driver lost control, crossed the center median and struck a semi traveling eastbound head on. The impact caused the tractor-trailer, driven by William Adkinsson, 57, of Casey, Illinois, to lose control and cross the median barrier. The semi finally came to rest in a ditch on the opposite side of the freeway. Jaquisha Wright, 18, of Chicago and Rashall Allen, 19, of Holland were killed upon impact Investigators say the driver of the box truck was uninjured and his vehicle sustained only minor damage. Lincoln Township PD was assisted by the Berrien Co. Sheriffs accident reconstruction unit, the Michigan State Police, Lincoln Township FD, MDOT, Medic One Ambulance. There were no reported injuries to any emergency responders. The Westbound lanes of I-94 was closed for approximately 4 hours during this investigation and resumed normal traffic around 9:00 p.m. This crash remains under investigation, autopsy of the two victims are to be conducted Monday by the Berrien Co. Medical Examiners office.
