Dealing with the marital discord issues for so long; gave me an insight into the personality disorders that are usually not taken seriously and the individual,situation,event...... are taken into account or blamed. When the issues are petty we tend to overlook them, thinking these happen and it happens with all. In the workplace, clashes happen and they happen with all. In the family we notice such clashes, but to keep the sanctity of the bonding in the family; we say- It happens in all families. What does not happen in most of the places is- taking a close look at the cause factor.It usually arises out of insecure or disrupted attachment in childhood. The symptoms of HCP or the High Conflict Personality can clearly be exacerbated by situations like divorce or relationship difficulties..... What is observed in people with normal personality disorders and HCP (might vary in their intensity) are : -they initiate and find conflict with others, rewarding (they are very argumentative) -they are usually at the center of whatever conflict is occurring (urge to prove themselves right) -they appear to treat conflict as normal to the extent where conflict becomes a defining aspect of their relationships. -poor listening skills -impatient and withdrawn from reality -tendency to hide facts -seek social support for every doubt they harbour -they are adept at escalating conflict (inner insecurities are expressed through vehemence in their arguments, which is a defense mechanism they live with...) -they find all solutions in blaming others. (they fear to take onus of any responsibilities) Personality clashes occur from - Fundamental incompatibility in the personalities. It may occur in work-related, family-related, or social situations. It is related to an insecure or disrupted attachment in childhood. We fail to recognise that Every Individual is living the present from the Past experiences. We can help them by addressing their insecurities and not their conflicts! :)
