Dean and I are just back from a month in the outback looking at river and creek systems about to be invaded by cane toads. So good to see them in a reasonably pristine condition. Bad to know that aerial burning is also taking its toll of native biodiversity prior to toads arriving. And to see that a number of Aboriginal Corporations had received funding to burn in August in major wind conditions and actually managed to burn areas that had been pre-burned by Government. This has meant that these Aboriginal Corporations are excluded from the government burning program and are not accountable because of their Land Rights claims! What chance do our native species have when government is running our national parks and cannot control Indigenous management diecisions? Run by idiots with degrees (sometimes not even that) earned down south some 3000 km from the Kimberley. Worse still is the illusion that because someone sais they are Aboriginal indicates they know county. While 5 to 6 generations of Aboriginal people are removed from their Hunter Gatherer ancestry in the Kimberley it is clear that we continue to foster this allusion of continuity. In the meantime thousands of rock art sites are being destroyed as we continue aerial burning lunacy. This is not even measuring the loss to native wildlife!
