Dear Academy by the Sea Supporter, As Academy by the Sea enters - TopicsExpress

Dear Academy by the Sea Supporter, As Academy by the Sea enters the final phase of the application process with the Pinellas County School Board, we are reaching out to our supporters. On August 1, 2013, Academy by the Sea submitted its application for a charter public school to serve the south Gulf Beaches communities. Next, the Pinellas County School Board will conduct a formal review of our application, which will take place on October 24, 2013. At that review, the School Board charter school coordinator will recommend the approval or denial of our application. The application then goes on for final approval or denial before the School Board. We are hoping for a positive outcome, and we are undertaking all steps to strengthen our chances for approval. It has been recommended that we retain an attorney who is well versed in charter school law to review our application and accompany us at our formal review meeting. An attorney with charter school expertise will prepare our board for the difficult questions which the School Board will pose during the interview, and will help to ensure that the school’s legal rights are protected in the course of the review meeting. We plan to retain Melissa Gross-Arnold, Esq., an expert in public and private education law, as well as government law. She has extensive experience working with charter schools and has represented clients before the Pinellas County School Board. It is anticipated that our legal fees with range from $3,000 to $4,000, which would include a review of the application, assistance in obtaining public records information to prepare for the review, and attendance at the formal interview. Many of you asked if you could help Academy by the Sea in any way, so we are asking now if you would be willing to make a contribution toward legal fees. Even if you can only afford $20.00, any amount will help and will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you are able to help by responding to me. You can also make out a check to Academy by the Sea and mail it to Wendy Holmes-Boring who handles our finances. Her address is: Wendy Holmes-Boring 215 43rd Avenue St. Pete Beach, Florida 33706 Your contribution toward public education for our Gulf Beaches communities is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your continued support! Sincerely, Luann Schecht Chairperson, Academy by the Sea Charter Public School
