Dear Adam Goodes, You have won one of the highest honours in - TopicsExpress

Dear Adam Goodes, You have won one of the highest honours in Australia, to become Australian of the year, defeating many worthy candidates, people who volunteer, exceeded expectations in competition, contributed to modern medicine advancements, and the list goes on. You won your award based on a fight against racism, yet your acceptance speech wasnt free of racist remarks. Today you referred to Australia Day as Invasion Day. Perhaps I suggest you nominate a day that you feel all of us Australians should celebrate, a day where we can all live as one, regardless of background, race, religion. I would never trace your family heritage to see if you were less Aboriginal than another person, so why would you see me as less Australian than you. We are all proud of our heritage, and my heritage is my parents, grand parents, and great grand parents were all born on the shores of this great country I call home. I struggle with anyone that would point to a 13 year old girl over the fence to humiliate her. She made a silly comment, and an un-educated comment, however she is a young girl, your a grown man, and you acted like a baby in this instance. Had Chad Cornes or Rory Sloane pointed out a 13 year old Aboriginal girl in Darwin for making the same remarks, I doubt they would be in the position that you find yourself in. Please, accept the fact that Australia is now made up of many cultures, and each of us respect our own cultures. If you want to be a great Australian of the year, accept who you are, and dont try to prove you are more Australian than I am, we are all proud of this great country. Im proud to be Australian, the greatest country on earth. Please dont treat me differently because Im not Aboriginal. By Jamie Goodwin
