Dear Alcuin School Community, As many of you may have already - TopicsExpress

Dear Alcuin School Community, As many of you may have already heard, Typhoon Haiyan (local name Yolanda), possibly the strongest typhoon ever to make landfall, hit central Philippines last Friday, causing great devastation and loss to the people in that country. As Filipinos living abroad and watching the news from so far away, we are heartbroken by the loss of lives, whether it be 10, 1000, or 10,000 (as some have estimated), and feel the need to help. Our own families are safe; but many are not. We know that we are fortunate to be a part of this community, a community of compassionate and generous people, and are therefore appealing to you for support in the true bayanihan spirit (a Filipino term that refers to a community’s united efforts to achieve a specific goal). If you have already given to the relief efforts for Haiyan, thank you! If you have not, please consider giving any amount to one of the following organizations that have created specific funds to support the victims of this typhoon: - American Red Cross - American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee - Catholic Relief Services - Habitat for Humanity - Heifer International - Oxfam America - UNICEF USA - World Food Programme - World Vision Thank you for your support, thoughts and prayers. On behalf of the people in the Philippines, maraming salamat! Sincerely, Caroline Clark, Primary Guide Edith Querubin, Upper Elementary Coach Verna Salta, Middle School Director
