Dear All, Its widely used for cooking, as a garnish… and now, this tasty herb could soon be a powerful new weapon in the fight against breast cancer. A new study has found that Origanum Majorana, often mistaken for oregano, may have the power to destroy cancer cells and stop lethal breast cancer tumours from spreading. In this recent study, published in the medical journal PloS One, a team of researchers led by Dr. Rabah Iratni from United Arab Emirates University found that Origanum Majorana — commonly known as marjoram — could hold promise as a safe, natural cure for breast cancer. Dr. Iratni founded a laboratory three years ago in a search for a herbal cure for common cancers, and it looks like he may have already struck gold. He and his colleagues tested a marjoram extract on invasive breast cancer cells in mice. Even with low levels of marjoram, the researchers were able to stop the breast cancer cells from dividing. But once they upped the dose, they discovered something even better: the cancer cells started dying by the millions! The massive cell death means that marjoram could provide a promising breakthrough cure for the most invasive types of breast cancer, Iratni said. Theres more research to be done, of course, and if you ask me, they cant do it soon enough. Breast cancer affects literally millions of women throughout the world each year, and current mainstream treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and radical surgery are painful and invasive. While Dr. Wright has recommended safer treatments like iodine, the opportunity to include additional safe, natural treatment options into the mix is always exciting. Trust me, marjoram isnt some flash in the pan. Its been used around the world to treat a variety of other health problems ranging from asthma to insomnia. Its still too early to tell for sure if the next great cancer cure is sitting in your herb rack, but it certainly cant hurt to start using it in your cooking.
