Dear All, SCaN is happy to invite applications for an Internship Position as ‘Cap-Net Network Attachment’ to support the Monitoring and Evaluation function which is an integral part of the Cap-Network plan for the year 2013. The details for the same are mentioned below: Terms and Reference Background Cap-Net is a UNDP programme and international capacity building network for sustainable water management housed at the Water Research Commission (WRC) in Pretoria, South Africa. The programme was established to address the large emerging demand for capacity building in sustainable water management and is supporting the development of a global network of capacity building institutions and individuals. These consist of several regional and national networks that have arisen spontaneously to address the capacity building problems in the water sector. The network provides a unique opportunity to support local ownership of the capacity building process and enables a critical mass of local skills to be built to address the multidisciplinary problem of integrated water resources management. In this context, capacity building networks (such as ScAN) on behalf of CapNET, UNDP, Pretoria, South Africa, solicit applications for a short term internship position as Cap-Net Network Attachment (NA) in the Cap-Net secretariat. The submissions should be accompanied by a short introduction from a network manager of the region on the proposed learning agenda of the candidate and what the NA is expected to contribute to his/her respective network upon return. The NA will devote a significant proportion of his/her time supporting his/her own network, the network manager will assign the NA with specific tasks that would benefit from the Network Attachment’s location within the Cap-Net secretariat. The NA will submit a work plan to carry out these tasks as part of the application process. The position is for a young professional who is affiliated to a Cap-Net partner regional or national network. The NA will work together with the Cap-Net secretariat in tracking the outputs and outcomes of capacity building and knowledge management activities of the global network Requirements Candidates will be assessed on the following: Appropriate academic qualification - a minimum of a bachelor degree relevant to water management, with a master being an advantage. Knowledge of water management Knowledge of outcomes and impact monitoring and evaluation techniques Ability to work in a small team with own responsibilities, as well as in the context of a global programme interacting with individuals of different backgrounds Fluency in English and with the working knowledge of one or more other official UN languages being an advantage Good writing and communication skills Having obtained a recommendation letter from a regional or country capacity building network A motivation letter outlining how the candidate meets the attachment requirements, and how the experience will benefit for his/her network and Cap-Net. Learning opportunities The NA shall work under the supervision of an experienced professional and will be part of a small team where he/she will assume responsibility for agreed elements of the work programme · As Cap-Net is an international network working various partners and regional and local networks, the work environment is expected to provide significant learning opportunities · Assisted by the supervisor, the NA shall also be responsible for identifying opportunities for self development Expected Outcomes The NA should coordinate the monitoring outcomes and impact of training programs conducted by cap-net affiliated regional and country networks closely liaising with networks to gather reports and information and compile a report on monitoring and evaluation of cap-net capacity development activities from 2012-2013.
