Dear All Students University Update on the Issue of Registration process for the 2015 Academic Year On the Issue of Residents and Exclusion In an impromptu meeting between the Acting Dean of Students (Adv. Harper), Student Housing and the SRC, the following decisions were taken: 1. All first years with Residence Acceptance Letters must be accepted. 2. Returning Students; I. Those who have paid R1 500 must be accepted as early as today (09 Jan 2015). II. NSFAS student with Proof of Acceptance or Provisional Proof of Acceptance or preselected should be accepted as they come. III. Students who are eligible to stay but their residences are not to be accessed yet, must be placed in other residences until Monday (12 Jan 2015). All In-service students, students that are here for interview and SRC will stay into the residence until they register. All these arrangements are valid up until the meeting between the SRC and the Vice Chancellor and all relevant stakeholders. On the Issue of the CACH As the 2014/2015 student representative council, we have taken it upon ourselves to seat down the university management and engage them on the new admission system that they have implemented. It was going to be very much wrong of us to take the admission right from our brothers and sister by being in support of the system, one should know that the system (CACH was implemented in the university without the knowledge of the SRC and our position on this matter is clear as we do not support it. After robust discussion that we heard today(09/01/2015 with the Dean of students, as the SRC we have indicated our position when it comes to the issue that we do not want this system to be practiced. The university has tried numerous time to exclude our students financially, residentially and now they want to exclude even the innocent matriculate academically. The meeting that we sat today could not resolve the matter and it was then referred to another meeting that is going to seat Monday with the presents of the Vice Chancellor and the Register. Moreover, our position still stands and we will never support this animal that is supported by the University and we further call upon all students to rally behind us to fight for our brothers and sister who came seeking for admission and who deserve access to institution of higher learning at the institutions of their choice and being chosen for by the system, majority of us have been beneficiary of the walk inn in the previous years so let’s support the coming generation. Ours is to carry the mandate of you as students and we will never deviate from that, when students make the call we will respond whatever the case might be and we will always be ready.
