Dear America, Yay for you! NATO is suddenly made relevant - TopicsExpress

Dear America, Yay for you! NATO is suddenly made relevant again, what with Moldova considering applying for membership in the organization, and everyone already in tensely watching the crisis in the Crimean peninsula. It does not seem that Russia intends to do anything beyond Ukraine right now, but with sanctions already levied by your White House, there does not seem to be any realistic hope for a coming to terms - at least in the near future. Your achievement in coming up with a treaty on nuclear things with Iran now seems overshadowed by Russias thinly veiled (protecting its ethnic populations in nearby states, Putin?) aggressions in the Baltic region. My question is with regard to the situation here in the Pacific, where China does not seem to have any intention to temper its pursuance of its Nine-dash Line in the South China Sea. Will the developments in the Baltic have any effect on your commitments to your little allies in the Orient, to whom you also have a mutual defense treaty? Surely, it would be difficult to maintain a presence in both fronts? What are we to do with that big bully up North? The stupid thing is that while we and our ASEAN neighbors might have a common aggressor, our territorial claims are in conflict as well. Hah hah for us! Ultimately though, the geopolitical question is this, are these aggressions of your enemies a sign that they are growing confident that the Pax Americana is on a wane? Because if it is, then my children might have a very difficult and uncertain future in store for them. When the ruling superpowers supremacy ebbs.... with thanks, Guy who is curious about how the political situation will look like 50 years from now P.S. If it comes to arms, please spare Natalia Poklonskaya, pretty please.
