Dear Animal Aid For Vermilion Area Supporters, As 2014 comes to - TopicsExpress

Dear Animal Aid For Vermilion Area Supporters, As 2014 comes to an end we wanted to give you an update on our rescue efforts as well as update you on the work we continue to do at the Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control. TIS THE SEASON TO DONATE Please remember our rescue as your donate to your favorite charities this holiday season and thank you to everyone that has already donated and supported our rescue throughout the year, it is because of your donations that we are able to change the lives of so many homeless, sick and injured animals forever. It has been both a challenging and rewarding year, and the homeless dogs and cats in our communities need your help, as we get ready to save more lives in 2015. AAVAs services to save homeless and abused animals are needed now more than ever! We have never seen such a need for our organization as we have witnessed in recent years. Shelters all around Louisiana are so full and, as a result, are euthanizing animals every day. Our foster families are taking on more and more dogs and cats simply to offer these animals a chance for a future. Furthermore, AAVA receives a staggering number of phone calls and emails daily seeking help for abandoned/abused animals, as well as outcries from pet owners who are struggling to pay for pet food, vet care, and basic supplies. As a result of the facts, AAVA has experienced significant funding pressures. Simply put, it has been a very expensive year for us with caring for over 500 animals this year with some that were in very bad condition such as parvo, mange, respiratory infections, hit by car, heartworms and other illnesses our vet care expenses were over $200,000. Many of these cost are in addition to the normal spay/neuter, microchip, shots and boosters. The average cost per dog is $250-$500 if the dog is healthy and $150-$200 per cat if healthy. In addition to the vetting cost we also had food costs were approximately $20,000. The cost is high but the reward is so amazing. On a more positive note, 2014 has been one of AAVAs most successful years with 221 cat adoptions and 317 dog adoptions to loving, responsible, and properly screened homes. This year was also a very busy one for our volunteers. Many hours of volunteer work were needed to facilitate the aforementioned 538 adoptions, which included scheduling veterinary services, making phone calls and home visits, processing applications, working at our adoption fairs at Petsmart, and performing reference checks with veterinarians. Should you be able to serve as a volunteer and/or a foster family for an animal, your assistance is sorely needed and greatly appreciated. AAVAs volunteers are directly responsible for its success. To volunteer with our rescue organization please visit our website AAVA Volunteer Application This year we also took over the management of parts of the Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control. We are proud to report that over 962 animals were rescued from the Vermilion Parish Animal Control Facility by AAVA and other partner rescue organizations! Since we have taken over as if March 2014 we are happy to report that since then no posted animals for rescue have been euthanized. We continue to work side by side daily with the Vermilion Parish Police Jury for a better tomorrow for the animals of Vermilion Parish. We greatly appreciate any financial support you can give at this time to help us make 2015 just as great of a year for these poor unwanted animals to get a second chance at life.
