Dear Beloved, Robin Joyce will lead our Lenten Meditations this each Thursday, March 13 through April 10. Meditation begins at 6:15PM, then soup is served at 7. This week, Christie and Patti are bringing yummy soup. This is Robins vision for our time together. Please read so youll know how to enter the time Robin is planning for us. Introduction to Lenten Meditation, led by Robin Joyce Quieting ourselves to hear the still small voice is one of the most challenging things in our busy hectic world. Turning in by turning off and tuning out. It takes practice and it takes discipline but just like with other things in our life it can begin to come naturally. Lent is often a chance to focus our walk, focus on a discipline. There are things, we can do by our selves, but there are many examples where our solitary path is bolstered by a communal experience, think of 12 step groups, weight watchers meetings, worship, singing.. Prayer full meditation is one of those things as well. It may seem counter intuitive but meditating together is a good discipline. These sessions are “meditative prayer” not strictly meditation. We will gather at 6:15 on Thursdays. We will sit comfortably in any way we like in the chancel (front part of the church). When you come into the church make sure your cell phones and then place your coats etc in the pews. Come quietly to the circle. Please greet each other with your eyes and a nod, but not a word. Posture: many practice certain postures to meditate. This does matter. However there are traditional prayer stances that do help focus and calm yourself. I suggest that when you enter the circle there will be two bowls of water and a cloth. Dips your fingers in the bowl, (Catholics will recognize this gesture) shake the water off and dry your hands with the cloth. This is a way to symbolically separate the secular day and leave it to enter a holy space/time. AS you take your position get comfortable. If there is music playing just find a comfortable place. When comfortable drop your hands to your side with palms facing forward, take a breadth in , and circle your hands to a prayer or the namaste blessing position so that your hands come together in front of your face, then draw them down to your heart area, close your eyes if you like, be present. We will sit listening to prayer chant, or some other form of auditory focusing. Each week I will provide you with a paper on the back using our senses to calm ourselves at 6:40 we will become silent, until 6:50. Then break with a simple bless and retire for soup. Love, Laura Ruth
