Dear Brothers and Sisters around the world, Bismillah ar-Rahman, ar-Rahim In light of the recent news concerning the crimes perpetrated by Boko Haram in Nigeria, Islam Care Centre would like to denounce the numerous atrocities committed by this group. We share in the pain resulting from these heinous acts and we pray that Allah (swt) return the girls safely to their loved ones. The groups religious justification for these kidnappings must be rejected wholesale. The teachings of Islam, as conveyed by our beloved Prophet (May Peace and Blessings be upon him), are clear on this matter: We are bound to seeking knowledge as is narrated in the hadith: The search for knowledge is an obligation laid on every muslim. (Ibn Majah and Baihaqi) Our teachings denounce kidnapping and the taking of a life unjustly: If anyone takes what is not his, he does not belong to us and let him come to his seat in Hell.(Muslim) And we have a moral imperative to act in response to injustice: What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of the human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the heart of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured. (Bukhari) Keeping this in mind, let us reflect on our tradition and condemn these and all terrible acts. May Allah (swt) grant you success in this life and the hereafter.
