My special guest Karin Harris highlights the footsteps of Phoebe Hearst her triumphs and her tribulations and the quiet legacy she left behind. Phoebe Elizabeth Apperson at the age of 19, she married George Hearst, who later became a U.S. Senator. Soon after their marriage on June 15, 1862, the couple moved to San Francisco,California, where Phoebe gave birth to their only child, William Randolph Hearst, on April 29, 1863. Upon George’s death on February 28, 1891, her wealth was estimated at $250 million, a staggering sum in those days. Phoebe’s only child William Randolph Hearst is best known for publishing the largest chain of American newspapers in the late 19th century.
