Dear CDE Alumni, There is a strong possibility that CDE will be cancelled this Fall semester due to low enrollment. The company currently has 6 dedicated dancers enrolled, but the department has now specified that 10 are needed for the class to continue. Advanced Character is also threatened by low enrollment. A significant hindrance has been a new schedule that places Advanced Character at 11am on Tue/Th (during academics) and CDE on Mondays at 6:30pm. As a sabbatical-leave sub for Rick, I am willing to volunteer my time to keep rehearsals running this semester and help organize performance opportunities. However, I am very concerned about the future of CDE and the Character Dance program at the U. There are about 35 freshman this year, so this is a pivotal time for CDE and the Department. Brent Schneider (Acting Chair for the Ballet Department) stated yesterday that the company has until Wednesday to obtain 4 more members. CDE members are working diligently to recruit additional members right now. In the meantime, the current members of CDE would appreciate any voices of support for this program.
