Dear Candidate, In order to make clear for the record your position on key public housing issues, we, public housing residents and resident leaders, request that you agree to pledge as follows, if you are elected: 1. I pledge to immediately stop the annual diversion of public housing funds to make payments to fund the NYPD, pursuant to a certain memorandum of agreement between the City of New York and the New York City Housing Authority, and will rescind that memorandum; 2. I pledge to not implement or pursue the Bloomberg administration’s proposed “infill initiative” to fund public housing through disposal or leasing of public housing land to build market-rate private housing; 3. I pledge to budget substantial annual funding to support the preservation, maintenance and repair of this City’s public housing stock; 4. I pledge to maintain the availability, funding and staffing of on-site community centers and resident programs at all of our public housing communities across the City for the benefit of public housing resident seniors and youths; 5. I pledge to suspend the payment of PILOT to the City, pursuant to various Cooperation Agreements between the City and NYCHA, for so long as NYCHA is operating at a deficit, and provided that paying PILOT would not create a budget deficit for the operation of NYCHA in any given year; 6.
