Dear Chatham County friends, I must admit that I am at a loss. Even if you are not allowed to have an official prayer at graduation, do you not think that God knows your heart and your faith? 1 Samuel 16:7 states that God "looks upon the heart." What benefit is there then to insisting on a public official led prayer? Matthew 6:5 tells us not to get hung up on praying in public because the people who are so focused on doing so have received their reward in full. What then should we be worried about? John 13:34-35 answers this by saying "[a]s I have loved you, so you must love one another" and John 21:17 states that if you love Christ then you should "feed his sheep." Perhaps instead of letting this divide us we should instead follow the explicit instructions we have been given. No one has here taken your faith from you, so maybe you should make good use of it and exercise it and share what your faith is really about through example.
