Dear Class, I spoke with Gloria Benson and her husband Ken yesterday afternoon! Gloria had been so active online and then seemed to have suddenly stopped, with only the messages from Hugs. The news is bad and good. They both stopped using computers awhile ago--he never liked it and she couldnt remember how to operate it from one time to the next. Gloria has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and is nonetheless very aware--she couldnt remember me by name but could by self description. She says she cannot leave the house anymore and does get to feeling very lonesome. Our friend has much pain, falls often and has eye problems related to the diagnosis. Cant paint anymore. Would love to hear from old friends. The thought of phone visits with our class cheered Gloria immensely. She and I first discussed what she would like me to convey to everyone, and I follow her wishes here. This classmate and friend still has positivity and gentleness that impressed the heck out of me and Im sure that our attention will be a great additional RX. I am sorry to know of this challenge but the good news us that Gloria is still with us and making the best she can of it. They still have their old (18) dog Cody, a Brittany Spaniel, and G loves hearing other folks dog stories. I wish the news were better but am glad that parts of it are as good as possible.
