Dear Class of 1981--Here is the scholarship committee update. Julie McDonald, Tami Dettinger and I were the only ones to show up at the scholarship meeting on April 14th. Julie contacted Lisa Gasser (class treasurer) and was told that our class would donate $250 toward a scholarship. We also decided to give another $250 award from funds donated by our class members. Absolutely100% of anything you donate will go into the scholarship fund. If we get more than $250 we will put anything else into the fund for next year. We hope that this will be an annual thing and a way to give back to the La Follette community. Eventually I want to get this set up through the School District Foundation so that you can send in payment online, etc and that the fund wills self-support. Please be patient as this will take a while and go into effect next year. This year we chose two people who made an impact in the lives of our classmates. One was Mrs. Carolyn Taylor--our class principal and one Mr. Charles Sommers who died recently. We thought it would be nice to give two scholarships in their honor this year so two deserving students will get a little money to go to college. We decided that our funds should go to students with the highest need and there are many who could not otherwise further their education. We are really happy to be able to contribute. If you would like to donate for now please send either Julie McDonald or I a personal message. You should make a check payable to Lafollette Lancer class of 1981 and we will tell you where to send your check. If you already contacted me about donating I will get back to you about where to send a check.
