Dear Editor, In recent years there has been a significant decline in the growing of local produce such as tomatoes, capsicum, cucumbers, cabbages and beans. This is despite the ever-increasing demands for local produce as a result of the booming tourism industry. While there are a number of factors that have attributed to the overall decline in the countrys agriculture sector, it would seem that the finger of blame can largely be pointed directly at the Ministry of Agriculture. Failing big time to ensure that the agriculture sector remains vibrant and continues to grow so as to meet the public demand for local crops, the government of the day needs to ensure that the Ministry of Agriculture gets back to the grassroots level of providing basic but essential services and assistance that the local planters really need. Failure to do so is likely to result in the countrys agriculture sector dying a slow but certain death. This would be a national tragedy. Very concerned (Name and address supplied)
