Dear Elizabeth Shuman, Im sorry that you have found yourself - TopicsExpress

Dear Elizabeth Shuman, Im sorry that you have found yourself back at club Yale. I can imagine it must be difficult to be struggling to breathe while watching others get out there and run, but I hope you know what you have accomplished in these past few months... Today I ran 6.3 miles! My first 10k ever!!! When Weston was born and we got the diagnosis 5 months afterward, I wasnt sure what life was going to be like. Those first years were filled with hospital stay after hospital stay as he continued to fail to thrive and have bowel obstructions. I looked out of Hasbro Childrens hospital watching the cars go past on I95 and all the people moving on with their lives. I wondered what my life would now look like, what would my sons life be like. Would he be attached to a gtube 24/7 days a week? would he stay out of the hospital for more than a month? Would he have a normal childhood? I was in graduate school to earn my MSW (something else we have in common. ;)) and decided that that was a dream to put on hold. Those first couple of years I lived in the grief of CF. I also ate my feelings as I watched my son struggle to gain weight. Over the years I have worked through my grief, and I have reclaimed life (graduated with my MSW last year!!!), and watch my son grow into the most amazing little man who has no limitations. My facebook newsfeed was still often flooded with sadness, fear, and negativity. This group has given me a whole new perspective. A purpose to put myself and my health first and to be a positive role model for my children. I guess it just had to take a bigger purpose for that to happen. Liz, as you rest, vest, and take your meds and get back to recovery please know that you are doing SO much for me, Weston, and the rest of the world. As I tackled that last hill today I thought I cant do this and started to go into panic. Then I remembered that I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to. OutRUNNERS will move mountains for you Liz. You lead the way. :) Happy Sunday OutRUNNERS!
