Dear FB Friends, Yesterday was a rough day for Debbie and me. We made our first trip to the Anderson Cancer Center, to get Debbie ready to start radiation therapy. We were there several hours, with Debbie sitting up most of the time, and that alone wore her out. Then we saw the CT scan of her cancer, and it was more extensive throughout her neck than we had imagined. So the doctor said she needed to start radiation right away. The rest of the day yesterday I was feeling down--and Debbie slept. Today was much better. It started with a trip back to the Cancer Center for her first dose of radiation. She was rested and brighter. I was encouraged. She joked with the ambulance drivers who took her there, and smiled at nearly everyone she saw. When we returned to the hospital, she had a swallowing test, which she passed with flying colors--which meant that she could get off a clear liquid diet--broth and jello--and begin to eat normally. In the afternoon, we went back to the Cancer Center for her second dose of radiation. Finally, around 4:00, she was able to rest comfortably, without pain. While she was resting, we got the news that our insurance had finally approved her going to a rehab center without limitation on care or length of stay. She will move to Countryside Manor in Anderson on Monday. Today was a good day. With Deborah Holdzkom
