Dear Facebook Family: Hopefully, everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving Day! Special thanks to everyone for your prayers and acts of kindness after I had neck and spine surgery on June 28, 2013. On Tuesday, Nov. 26th, I returned home to Staten Island, NY after recovering with family and friends in Petersburg, VA. I met with the Neurosurgeon who performed the surgery, Dr. Anthony Alastra, and he ordered an x-ray of my throat and physical therapy exercises for my neck, arms, and balance. I was cleared to return to work at the African Burial Ground National Monument on Dec. 3rd. Follow us at nps.gov/afbg. I will take it slowly and day by day! The highlights of returning to NY have been taking my brother Tim to Central Park, China Town, The World Trade Center, Times Square, and the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Today, we will explore some cultural attractions such as Harlem, The Apollo Theater, early African American communities in NY known as the Land of the Blacks, and the Triumph of the Human Spirit statue. I will give Tim a special walking tour of black history entitled, A Broader View: Exploring the African Presence in Early New York. Thanks again for your love and support. May our Lord and Heavenly Father continue to always bless you! FOREVER IN CHRIST JESUS, Doug E.
