Dear Facebook, You suck. My attempt at boosting a post failed, and Ill never do it again. After months of incessant and annoying this post is doing well, boost it now! notifications from Facebook, I finally decided to boost a post. The review process, which the pop-up box told me usually takes less than 15 minutes took 10 hours, meaning my post wasnt pushed out until after 10pm. I went to bed thinking Id get more visibility today, during normal waking hours, only to wake to an alert that my ad was disapproved in the middle of the night for having too much text in the image. My issues here are as follows: 1. At no point during the process to boost my post was I warned about the text issue. I would have had to click through to several learn more and help pages to find the 20% text stipulation, which I didnt do because I thought I knew everything I needed to know. It would be nice if instead of giving me useless general information you included a clear Images in boosted posts must adhere to advertising guidelines with a link to those guidelines right on the first screen after I select the Boost Post option. 2. If my ad wasnt being checked for compliance with those guidelines before being posted, why did it take 10 hours to get through review? While Ill only end up paying for the time it was boosted, thats still 60% of my very small budget spent during the late night and early morning, which arent the most desirable hours. If it had gone live earlier, at least Id be paying for what I hope would be more quality exposure. Better yet, I wouldve rather the post been disallowed from the beginning and paid nothing. 3. My image does not comply with the text guidelines, and i accept that. I would have checked myself before attempting to boost it if I realized it could be an issue. Im not asking you to reinstate my ad. However, as an author, its logical that when I boost a post, its going to have something to do with my books and will probably include my book cover. Under your advertising guidelines, I cant even revise this ad to remove the pricing and Labor Day special wording because its too much text still. I couldnt even use a single cover alone because its still more than 20% text. If I cant boost even a single book cover, this feature is useless to me. Its bad enough that youve strangled organic post reach down to so little to begin with. I will certainly never attempt to boost a post again and will look to strengthen my social media efforts on sites outside of Facebook.
