Dear Family, Friends, Teammates, and Strangers Reading This, It - TopicsExpress

Dear Family, Friends, Teammates, and Strangers Reading This, It is with great reluctance I write this note to let you know of my misfortunes. WOE IS ME!!! Know that I love you, care about you, follow you on Facebook, and otherwise have you always in my thoughts and heart. I have indeed come upon some hard times. My father always said, wisely, that after forty its patch, patch, patch. And my Mother, wisely, always said you need to eat hot cereal for breakfast so you have something to stick to your ribs so you can make it through the day. Alas, I never did quite understand how the hot cereal migrated to the ribs or that its sticking there helped me make it through the day. Sadly, its too late to ask for clarification on those points. However, I think my thoughts are wandering. Back to patching. Unexpected events, indeed. I have now survived, I think, two rounds of, as they describe it, invasive oral surgery to save my teeth and regrow areas where my jawbone has been destroyed, obliterated and invaded by alien bacteria. To do this they have used the finest available dental torture techniques including vast incisions, massive bloodletting, laser warfare, bone grafts and bad jokes. As I say this, and you probably cant understand me well since I have nearly twenty stitches still dispersed around my mouth and, therefore, dont say things too clearly, I think I will survive, just out of spite, mostly. Misfortune #2: Well, the good and the bad of it: First, its a sports injury not an old age injury (per se)!!!!! I got taken out playing league soccer and since have hiked in the highlands, swam in the oceans, celebrated lifes events and attempted to continue playing soccer, running, skiing etc. Not such a good idea, really, in retrospect. So, I go under the knife soon, arthroscopically speaking, to repair tears in the medial and lateral menisci and cartilage damage under the knee cap. Good news is the ACL reconstruction is still intact, healthy and with a lot less arthritis than most 20+ year old reconstructions. Bad news is, Im allergic to surgery and really cant say that I like it that much (the stitches in the mouth, remember, and also true fear). SO, anyway, family, friends, teammates etc., as I face my fears and difficulties straight on, know this, I WILL BE BACK!!! Now, dont go giving away my jersey just yet or my position on the team. Really, what would you do without me -- the dedication, the attendance at that one practice each year, moments of splendid play, the jokes?? I WILL BE BACK!!! . . . . In a little while. . . sigh. . . . [Note: Credit to Cousin Mike and his philosophy that you need to laugh every day.]
