Dear Family and Friends, please read this message from our Principal Osborn: October 10, 2013 Dear Families, Conferences are just around the corner and I hope that every family will sit down with their child’s teacher and talk face to face. Parent involvement is important for student success. At Gordon, our staff is deeply committed to helping every single student succeed. There are many things that we do to identify and address student needs. As part of our Richard Gordon School Wide Progress Monitoring Plan, all teachers spend time in September to review data from the previous spring, and administer fall assessments in reading and math. As part of this plan, teachers work in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to: analyze triangulated data for each student complete a school wide color coding system to identify student needs set measurable PLC team goals for student achievement plan for small groups that provide students differentiated support administer common assessments during the year to monitor and adjust instruction and to share teaching strategies with each other WIN (What I Need) time, our Instructional Support Specialist, and our paraprofessionals, are all important parts of our School Wide Progress Monitoring Plan. WIN time is a 40 block during the day when PLC teams plan activities and small groups to meet the needs of students needing extra support, as well as students above grade level who need enrichment. During WIN time, and throughout the day, paraprofessionals and our Instructional Support Specialist work with teacher PLC teams to provide differentiated support for our students individually and in small groups. In a few days, you will have an opportunity at conferences to talk in detail with your child’s teacher about fall assessments, classroom expectations, and how your teacher works with the paraprofessionals and the Instructional Support Specialist to support individual students. If you have questions before conferences, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, our Instructional Support Specialist Andrea Neault, [email protected] , or myself, Rachel Osborn, [email protected] . At Richard Gordon Elementary School we are deeply committed to ensuring high levels of learning for all students. Sincerely, Rachel Osborn, Principal Richard Gordon K-5 Options K-8 North Kitsap School District 360-396-3800 We must shape & nourish school cultures where every teacher can make a difference & every child can learn & where there is passion & a commitment to designing and promoting the absolute best that is possible (Petersen & Deal, 2002).
