Dear Friends, I have received this request from a friend artist from Mexico and I need your help in finding her a family in Dubai or Kuwait she can live with for 3 to 4 weeks to work on an art project. Following is her request explaining her work: I am interested in exploring those territories undergoing a situation of isolation, precariousness and oblivion. Places with a form of unstable human life which also have put up with the harsh conditions imposed by the power of nature. I like pausing and looking at geographical and human isolation and unknown spaces that coexist with our everyday life, but that are beyond our everyday worries since our lives are based on comfort, and so we do not need to be concerned with them as, in many cases, due to their inaccessibility, they simply do not appear on maps. Experiences with local people, the fieldwork, and the images are all captured using the means with which I work: phtographs provide me with “raw material” that I reconfigure afterwards, reinterpret from my own perspective. The results are then presented in an exhibition and Catalog aimed at raising awareness in the viewer and leading to a reflection on the kind of human life that takes place in these difficult and inaccessible places. In short: my objetive is to highlight their existence. Before the journey I study the “places” where I want to carry out the “fielwork” that I will process afterwards. This coexistence of human and geographical landscape last one month and my basic needs of food, accommodation and trnasport are met by local people. Coexisitng with the eople and landscape, sharing the same conditions, enables me to become one of them, and not to remain a tourist ir a viewer, which is essential for obtaining a committed result. However, after several years of research in this line in different parts of the world, I wanted to address now the opposite side to the development of human life in hostile environments or precarious, and I want to talk about those communities where man develops his life wrapped in comfort and wealth, or rather, in the midst of an excess of luxury that shows off everywhere. That is why I stopped especially in Dubai and Kuwait. My intention is to reside about three or four weeks in one of two places (Kuwait or Dubai) and be able to record photographic and video images that sometimes reveal evidently, sometimes disingenuously, the great economic power of its inhabitants or the glitz that make this wealth, but trying not to fall in topical iconography very much seen in mass media or spaces for exhibitions. I would like for it deepen your daily lifestyle, dive if possible in their most intimate habits and personal life, capturing the corresponding imaginary has surely come to light much less than the external signs. This insert myself in a family home or a native Spanish or western residing in the country would prove to be the ideal situation. This goal is what has led me to seek your help, with the hope that among his many contacts with the Arab world, could provide me or connect me with someone who can help me in preparing my trip, in terms of routes, sites crucial to know, and that would give me the possibility to stay, for a fee, of course, as I suggested earlier, in the house of a native or at least someone who has resided for some time in Dubai or Kuwait and already adopted as its own the modus vivendi of the place.
