Dear Friends, So much for the recent uproar concerning Stacy - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, So much for the recent uproar concerning Stacy Njagis deleted post. We had been going through your comments, waiting for the dust to quell before we could say something about it. Before anyone joined this group, they found a request button. In any administrative circles, requesting to join a group, institution or society, there are rules and regulations pertaining membership. The intention to join them often translates to agreeing to adhere to the terms and conditions set in order to be a member. We are 8 members short of the 60,000 mark as this post is written and handling such a magnitude is not easy anywhere in the world. But we are happy that everyone here has a space to express their art or love for it, but as we often insist, in acceptable diction. When we were setting up this group four years ago, we not only aimed to bring poets from all over the world together, but also promote the virtue of critical thinking to readers as the latter develop their work so as to exhibit writings that would be of a commendable value to anyone who comes across them. The membership of this group has people ranging from the age of as young as 15 to 60+. For it to run sanely, we had to develop regulations, found in the About section, which we felt were necessary. That includes deciding that everyone who needs to be part of us must first of all request so that by virtue of them agreeing to the same, theyd be consenting to be working with what we deem as comfortable ethics. We have time and again clarified that erotic content is not allowed on the page with clear implications should we notice any. With the surging numbers of poems that get posted here on a daily basis, some of that content eludes us. It is why we asked that you help us identify such posts and report them to us and so far, the response has been amazing. Stacys poem had vulgar content that could not be allowed to exist here for more than 5 minutes however long it was. Yes, she took her time to post it, but out of our experience and regulations, and being that we have been saying that any posts of such caliber shall be brought down, we had no choice than to do so to protect what we stand for as Kenyan Poets Lounge. We also had the option of dismembering her but had to be considerate from the fact that she has posted reasonable poems before. We however admit not to have communicated to her before and after deleting her poem concerning its uncomfortable nature for this group. For the longest time, and this is not about to change, we have awarded a reasonable freedom to poets and writers to post works that they feel theyd want consumed by an audience. However, that has to be in line with what we feel is acceptable. In the interest of our purpose to nurture, develop, and appreciate poetry talents from all over the world, we shall not bow to public pressure that is bound to steer us away from accomplishing the vision we have for Kenyan poetry, life values and standards we wish humanity should morally attain. We therefore call for maximum cooperation from all members in regard to the above to enable the smooth running of the group. If we all took care of this place like we do our homes and our hearts, we would be at the moment grown to be discussing on ways to take Kenyan poetry on a global scale. We still believe that that is possible because of the already diverse membership that exists here. After reading this, dear poet, may you take your time to reflect upon your comprehension of poetry, its purpose and your role in this group. Have a beautiful week ahead. With love, Admin
