Dear Friends, Those of you attended the conference call with the volunteers of Volunteers For Better India(VFBI) and Overseas Volunteers For Better India(OVBI) would have realized that the magnitude of devastation occurred is three times of what has been reported. Let me briefly recapture the real scenario as put by the lead volunteers Swami Divyananda, Bharatenduji and Shweta Golani who are working at the ground level. There are about 500 villages in that region with a population of 500-1000 each. Most of them are completed submerged under water. If we calculate, the death toll should be about 250,000 to 500,000, we include the tourists as well. However, the report mentions the death toll to be 550. The volunteers along with the Army and other relief workers are still removing dead bodies from the debris. The roads are destroyed and the relief trucks are not able to reach the camps. Also, there is serious danger of an epidemic. The International Association Of Human Values(IAHV), specializes in Disaster Management and Trauma Relief, is providing required expertise. What is most bogging is the shortage of manpower and lack of awareness amongst the general mass about the Disaster. Also, there is humongous task of rebuilding the region and instilling the faith in the people. Please find more details at the website: ovfabi.org/ What you can do? 1. Donate. 2. Spreading the news about the disaster by informing your friends, colleagues, community etc and encouraging them to do the same. 3. Talk to your companies to donate. OVBFI is 501c3 recognized organization. 4. Give your time to this mission. 5. Talk to other non-profit organisations. I am a volunteer with OVBFI, VBI and IAHV. I want to see my India prosper, and I am doing my bit.
