Dear Friends, Twenty-one years have passed since November 24, 1993, when The Center for Jewish Culture of the Judaica Foundation was opened in the Kraków’s Borough of Kazimierz, which was a conclusion to the unique grassroot initiative conceived by e.g. Prof. Józef A. Gierowski, Prof. Jan Błoński, Prof. Jacek Woźniakowski, Prof. Chone Shmeruk, and Dr. Rafael F. Scharf. Owing to the kind sponsorship of the Polish-American Joint Commission for Humanitarian Assistance, the ruins of the former Prayer House at the Meiselsa Street were brought to its splendid condition as never before. The Center became a place of learning the Jewish heritage in Poland, the commemoration of that heritage and its varieties, the Polish-Jewish relationships, the Holocaust, and anti-Semitic issues, as well as the civic society values. It is next to impossible to describe the past twenty years briefly, but the statistical presentation of that period is the following: we held more than three thousand various program event, with over 700 outstanding representatives of political, artistic, social and media circles from Poland and abroad and 250,000 attending participants and visitors. Today is also the best time to express our cordial gratitude to all the Polish and foreign institutions and individuals who have generously sponsored our activities, as well as all the scholars, artists and celebrities of public life who have enriched our program, not to mention the audience who have faithfully frequented our place for twenty-one years. And we hope we will all continue to do the same and more in the future, because the fate of this Institution lies also in your hands. Joachim S. Russek Director of the Judaica Foundation Center for Jewish Culture
