Dear Friends , We have here combined all three Interviews in one Note. Please do read them as we are trying to create awareness with these fictitious interviews to understand what a Tiger would say if he had a voice. We need to understand their plight and help. If these are helping you understand the seriousness of the situation we will continue to write some more like these. Long Live Tigers. Thank you. THE FIRST INTERVIEW Reporter: Hi Tiger Tiger: Hello Reporter: Sorry to say but you have lost your image after what you did at Delhi Zoo. You killed someone and that’s really bad. Tiger: Yes I know but, I am not here to justify but I do feel sorry for the unfortunate man for what happened , but I want to also let you know a few facts. Reporter: Facts? What Facts, Our channel has done the complete coverage and left no stone unturned. Tiger: Exactly. The facts you humans know but don’t ever speak about it. Reporter: (confused) Tiger: Firstly tell me something where do I actually belong? Why I have been kept here for your entertainment? Why should I be kept captive? Reporter: Well, People need to see you and spend their time at the zoo. Children come for educational tours. That’s why? Tiger: You haven’t still answered my question. I belong to the wild and I am a wild animal put in cages and need to appear like a domestic cat for you humans. You come to the zoo, pelt stones at me, shout all sort of names, even throw rubbish inside my cage and yet you call yourself civilised? Reporter: Listen, I am just having this interview on public demand and they are asking for an explanation that’s it. Tiger: Yes why not you are the superior race and say feel and assume what you like and we tigers who are put into cages can’t even express how we feel. Reporter: Yes, we say and feel what we think is right and you have done wrong. Tiger: Ok, Let me put it another way. See that snake enclosure there, go inside and pet the cobra, it will kiss your hand and... Reporter: Whatt ?? Are you crazy ?? You want me to get bitten or what? That’s a poisonous animal and I am not going in there. Tiger: Then why you cannot relate with me the same way? Why can’t you think that I didn’t go out of my enclosure killing people , I didn’t invite anyone here , also don’t forget at first I was just curious to know who the stranger was in my cage and went to inspect. Reporter: Go on .. Tiger: The man died because they angered me by pelting stones at me and shouted and that got me agitated. In my inquisitiveness I picked him up and took him away from the crowd. Reporter: But we saw the bite marks on his neck. Tiger: I picked him up from the neck as I do to pick up my own cubs in the forest. It was natural behaviour. I didn’t expect that my jaws will kill him because human necks are very delicate, unlike ours. If I was a killer or a man-eater I would have harmed so many already and eaten the unfortunate guy. Reporter: Hmm, I understand what you mean. We didn’t think about it in that way. All I was told to label you an Adamkhor, Man-eater etc so our channel gets good trp. But now I understand what happened and how the incident took place. Tiger: But this isn’t just the story and this isn’t all about us. Our brothers in the wild are protecting your forests; we are saving the green lungs of your country by having these tiger reserves all around. Reporter: Yes I also didn’t think about this too.People dont know all these things. Tiger: We have maintained clean rivers throughout the reserves to make sure you humans get clean drinking water for drinking and water for cultivation of your crops for agriculture. Absolutely unlike you who have not even spared any river and not even the holy river of Ganga. We are not asking anything in return, we just need our space and protection and in simple words Leave Me Alone. Reporter: I am amazed that you Tigers are doing all that and there’s hardly any awareness on why we should save the Tiger. Tiger: Thank you. I hope I have explained enough. I request every human to understand just one thing. This planet is only not theirs and we all animals who were actually before you did , want peace and let us all keep the web of life intact together. We both need each other; this is our Planet and let’s not behave as if we have another one in store. __________________________________________________________________________________ THE SECOND INTERVIEW Reporter: Hello Tiger: Hi, Your back again? Reporter: Yes there are some things I want to clear about last time about the water sources being clean because of you. People don’t believe this. The say how can the Tiger save us? Tiger: Yes why not, let me explain that... Did you know the over 500 to 600 rivers originate from the 47 Tiger Reserves of India? Reporter: Really, That’s awesome didnt know about this. Tiger: These water sources are clean only because they are inside protected areas and then further flow to the villages of India where the water is drawn for irrigation and agriculture and that’s how you get your vegetables, fruits etc. Do you want it to be made out of the filthy water where the human settlements are … forget drinking you won’t even touch the water there. During the few months of monsoon, the forests absorb billions of gallons of rainwater. During these dry months, two things happen to this water; it is taken up by the trees via their roots and then transpired into the atmosphere. This transpired water, in the form of water vapour, forms clouds and in a few months’ time, precipitates to form rain. The second thing that happens to the rainwater is that it forms underground rivers and streams. These streams then later rise to the surface to form rivers. These rivers flow to areas even where there has been no rain for many months. So forests provide us with our drinking water. Reporter: Oh My God!! We are so dumb not to realise this. We need clean water to grow our crops and the same clean water to drink and they are coming from these sources and …. Got it … Got it I now understand why it’s important to save you and the forest because in turn we are saving ourselves... God this is such an awesome truth and need to educate this through our media... Tiger: But remember one thing... In turn all I ask is our space and protection. We are voiceless creatures, we all animals, we also feel pain and and also have our families, we also dwell the same earth as you and have equal right to stay here in peace. Reporter: I completely agree with you. Even we humans need the same thing as you but , the only difference is we keep justifying ourselves and harm animals , encroach the forests , mine them and also cause deforestation and in this greed we completely forget this is your home and we need to respect our boundaries. Can I come back again if there anything more to clarify ? Tiger : Welcome anytime. __________________________________________________________________________________ THE THIRD INTERVIEW Reporter: Hello Again Tiger: Hi... You seem to slowly understand what we spoke previously I hope. Reporter: Yes this time I am here with a different attitude. I think we humans are slowly realising your value. You’re just not an ordinary animal; there are so many facts that connect you and us . Tiger: Thank you. This time can I ask a few questions to you before you do yours? Reporter: You? Sure... I am all ears, what is it you want to ask? Tiger: I am going to stay in the city from now on in an apartment. Reporter: Are you crazy!! You will create panic among everyone and people will run everywhere. Finally they will either catch you or put you in a cage and in some cases we have even killed some of you who entered our hometowns. Tiger: I know. Then why do you encroach and make homes inside our area, why do you think that’s right, why are we to suffer when man – animal conflict takes place in such cases? Even here I am the loser and as you said that finally we will be caught or shot down for your fault. The media will again label us man-eaters and “adamkhor” which is their favourite term. Reporter: (Fumbles) I .. I..I I know but you are a wild animal .. Tiger: Exactly you answered it I am a wild animal and it’s my nature to be that way. But you are a human you made these boundaries and you yourself break the rules. Your population is swelling so you need more space and we are the targets! Whether you need coal or you need wood, you deforest my home. Why??? Reporter: Listen, I was here to ask my questions not answer yours. Tiger: Why? You were so enthusiastic to hear mine. What happened now? Reporter: I am not a conservationist and neither from the Govt. department to understand all this. I am here to ask further the doubts my boss sent me here for. Tiger: This is exactly what I have been saying, when it comes to us, the general public doesnt want to know or understand and our fate is decided by some authorities. Why when we play such an important role in your lives we are in such a mess. We need support from everybody to survive, not be killed. Reporter : You mean people are not aware and that’s why this is happening? Tiger : Everyone knows , people are seeing it all around themselves … everyone is torturing Mother Nature in their own way , some are polluting the rivers with chemicals , some are mining the forest lungs and some are just here to trade in our body parts by killing us. Reporter: What?? Kill you for your body parts why?? Tiger: Yes, Some people find us more useful dead than alive. They are killing us one by one for their own greed and selling us to other parts of the World. Reporter: What?? I don’t know anything about all this. Tiger: Poaching is one of the biggest threats we are facing from humans besides encroachment and deforestation. We are either shot down with guns, trapped in snares or electrocuted with high tension wires. Reporter: What the hell!!! What are they going to make of a dead Tiger?? Tiger: Traditional Medicine practitioners use nearly every part of ours, from our whiskers to our eyes, claws, pelts, flesh and bones. Our bones are ground into a powder that is used to manufacture Tiger Bone Wine, of ‘supposed’ medicinal value, and elixirs from ground Tiger bones are used to make medicine and treat other illnesses in you humans. Some have even decorated their homes with our skins. The trade continues because of this MYTH and widespread belief by many people who think this will cure them and they will be fine. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen by humans, JUST IMAGINE IF ALL THESE MEDICINAL PROPERTIES ARE PRESENT INSIDE US, THEN WHY ARENT WE LIVING FOREVER OURSELVES???? Reporter: But seriously this is really stupid and must be stopped. Why aren’t there measures taken for your safety and I keep reading that over 50 of you die each year. Aren’t the authorities doing enough to protect you? Tiger: It’s not that they are doing enough but as I said earlier I need support from everyone not just the authorities. Each and every individual has to contribute to the cause in their own way. It maybe through creating awareness, donating to the right sources, helping at ground level etc. Reporter: Thanks a lot Sir. Tiger: Sir???? Yes... “Sir” I salute you and I respect you a lot because I now understand your plight. Truly it’s an honour for our country to have you as our National Animal.
