Dear Friends, When the #CalgaryFlood hit, so many dug deep to help out our neighbors and support the various flood relief programs. The need for many of our local organizations has also increased yet donation dollars are limited and we need your support. Our affluent province continues to have the 2nd highest rate of reported family violence. The YWCA of Calgary aims to Intervene, Empower and Lead women to help break the cycle of family violence and they have to raise $3.7 million each year just to maintain their existing programs. The facility and emergency shelter in downtown Calgary was also damaged during the floods and the revenue generating fitness facility had to be closed. Another blow to an already tight budget. Prior to the floods, I joined the committee for the YWCA WhYWhisper Gala 2013. Our feature speaker is Naomi Judd - a woman who is no stranger to speaking out about health, human rights and family related issues. This is a story of resilience and optimism. From struggling with poverty, isolation, abandonment and frightening health issues, Naomi overcame and discovered what it takes to be a survivor. Come hear Naomis story, understand her journey and discover how it illustrates the resourcefulness, fearlessness and strength a woman is capable of when it is needed most. (What she went through before becoming a country music singer may surprise you.) I am reaching out to ask for your help.
