Dear Friends and Family: 2014 was a year full of health - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends and Family: 2014 was a year full of health priorities - taking care of my health through the wonderful work of Physical Therapy and water aerobics at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s Wellness Center located within a mile from where I live. It’s been a one stop center for all my medical and therapy needs. Yes, this aging body found good reason to work out at least 3 times a week at the gym, at the same time finding a way to break down here and there. The first 3 months was spent in cardiac rehab to bring my heart’s ejection fraction up from 20% to 40%; followed with water therapy for what I thought was a groin pull, which was found to be a lump in a lymph node (nothing to be concerned about/no cancer); then a pinched nerve in my neck that caused numbing down one arm to the fingers; and then pain and a locking knee, which resulted in arthoscopic surgery to remove loose bone. Praying this is my last PT session which starts this month and should finish up before my 60th birthday. I can say that if another body part breaks down, I should be able to do my own PT. LOL My youngest brother and his wife, Henry and Celia, decided to close Henry’s BBQ restaurant in Monterey after 6 years and move to Washington State – something they’ve talked about doing after taking care of Celia’s aging parents. They can now focus on their own health and no more long hours and days. Henry’s youngest son, Ben, has been staying with until Henry gets a job and settled in Washington. Ben has been able to cook me a meal, and take on some chores during his stay. He travels to Daly City to stay and visit with Celia often to help care for their cat and dog as well as spend time with Mom and Aunt Kem. I know he misses them. I’ve still been able to have some fun and exercise despite my injuries doing water aerobics; caring for a friend during the day; attending Seaside High’s 50th Anniversary Reunion (even though I attended Monterey High); participating in Paint Nite and my 3rd ‘Relay for Life’ for the American Cancer Society; working with a great group of people on the Monterey Peninsula College Booster Club Committee to raise funds for athletic programs; having visits from cousins and their children from Southern California and the Philippines; help out at the Fort Ord Chapel on Wednesday nights w/AWANA & sing in the Choir; and listening to the sound of the much needed rain. I’m going into my 5th year come January, 2015, as the Executive Director of the Monterey County Peace Officers Association, maintaining their books, memberships, shooting range invoicing and coordinating 6 events throughout the year. I enjoy my work from the comforts of my own home, when I need and/or want. God willing, there will be some travel in 2015 for sure. I’d like to get up to Washington State to visit Henry & Celia and other friends and family in the Seattle area; and a trip to visit my great grand children (Bob’s side) in Jacksonville, Arkansas. May God hold you close and keep you safe always and in all ways! Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year! With much Love and hugs to all. Joy-Ful
