Dear Fungus Freaks, Im writing to you because I havent a clue about what Im looking at here. I was walking in the rainy woods yesterday and happened upon several colonies of this rather cool looking fungus growing out of tree branches. Each amber colored thingamabob looked like a jelly blob or a gumdrop after my little sister Cyndi had licked all the sugar off of it and then put it back in my Halloween sack when we were kids. I did not opt to taste one. (Does that make me a coward?) Anyway, each of these was shot with my iPhone with an 18mm Moment lens attached, which lets you get really close. In the last one, the fungal jelly blobs arent really the stars of the pic, that hungry spider is. Can you believe it? When I bumped up against the branch, trying to steady my hand and camera for a shot of those ruddy fungus among us, she came charging out to see if I was a meal ...or something. She was not backing down, either, so I moved right in close and made her defiant portrait, a little rainy day, backwoods detente.
