Dear Grand Prairie Arts Council, I am an artist and life long resident of Grand Prairie. Im writing to ask for your help in providing a place for artists such as myself to be able to create their art in an affordable location. There must be a building in Grand Prairie that has been abandoned and sitting empty where struggling artists like me who cant afford high rents and dont need store fronts would be able to paint. Art is not all Hello Dolly! and Uptown Theater or concerts in the park. We are artists attempting to create visual art that can be appreciated by all Grand Prairie residents not just patrons of our beloved Uptown. Artists who strive for creative opportunities without having to go to another city such as Dallas to be able to have it. I know there are more artists in Grand Prairie who could benefit by having a studio atmosphere in a locale in their home town such as myself. I also know that I see empty buildings all over Grand Prairie falling into disrepair, mouldering away when those buildings could be converted into affordable artist studios or an Arts Center for Grand Prairie residents. I love my home town. Someday I hope to think that Grand Prairie would love me, the art I create and support me in the art I want to create that would change my life and my future.
