Dear IT students, The following message has been sent from Prof. Robert to you. Ministry of Higher Education Colleges of Applied Sciences Faculty of Information Technology March 2014 Dear CAS-Sur Students, It was a pleasure to have met you on Tuesday. Dr. Qasim and I have discussed the visit in general and in the following you will find responses to the points you raised during the meeting: ** In relation to course material and exam cut-off points, this point has been raised several times and our response was, and still is, that exams are made to examine your knowledge of the subject matter delivered during a certain course. Here, I would like to assure you that exams are prepared within a framework of quality. I would request of you to learn from the story which Dr. Qasim narrated during the meeting.... ask how to learn more for your future career, not what material you can avoid. ** In relation to the idea of co-operative education, I am happy to know that some of you have completed training in some organizations successfully and I make note of the fact that these training sessions were not sufficient in length for you to acquire further knowledge and skills. We are currently working on a different model of extended training/work experience which we hope is sanctioned so that you reap its benefits in the near future. ** In relation to the practical nature of the courses and the request for more practical exercises, these issues also concern us and we are working on restructuring our laboratories to fulfill this need. I received the news that the request for new equipment for T-Building labs has been approved and they are expected to be fully furnished equipped by the beginning of the next academic year. ** In relation to the SFDV3007 and SFDV3008 courses and other data management elective courses, these courses are currently being reviewed and we expect the review to be finalized by the end of this academic year so that the implementation of changes can start soon. Finally, thank you to those who attended the meeting, we will see you next month. Best Regards, Robert Craig, Professor - Program Director, Information Technology Qasim Al-Mamari, Assistant Professor - Assistant Program Director, Information Technology
