Dear K2C readers we need your support – For the first time in its 12 years of existence, Kruger2Canyon became a sold paper on Friday October 24. While some locals welcomed the idea of our local rag having value, others reacted with disgust at having to dip into their pockets for something they have been given for free for the past 12 years. Clearly they are unaware of the challenges facing independent media in South Africa today. As the owner of K2C, I would like to make it clear that this is not a get rich quick scheme. Rather it is a matter of survival. Of the R5 – the shops get their share, at the schools where we distribute we have a 50/50 arrangement so the schools can also benefit from the news they supply. This is a small way to make a difference all round. Orbet Malambu who has been handing out K2C for 12 years has literally handed out 600 000 newspapers at the stop street for free and has done so with pleasure and a huge smile on his face! If you buy a paper from him now he earns a commission on the sale. So please support him, he deserves it!
