Dear Mayor Coleman of Ohio, your staff and whomever this pertains to. I am a parent that lost a child due to gun violence. My son was NOT in a gang, my son did NOT carry a weapon, my son WAS a law abiding citizen that exercised his right to voted (the one time that he could before losing his life and yes he did vote for you and many that are still holding political positions today). Brandyn WAS a college student getting his degree in the school of Architecture, he WAS engaged to be married he HAD parents that taught him good morals and values. I am tired of turning on the television and seeing what city officials are going to do to stop the violence. When I am on the east side doing my part I see no one in uniform, is that because they are somewhere else fighting crime? I think NOT. I saw on the news a few weeks ago where there is a new Mayors summer initiative. There will be 60-80 neighborhood safety cameras (doesnt make sense to spend money on that when they watch in plain sight where the cameras are), 70 officers will be removed off patrol duty and moved to specialized units to concentrate on gun violence, gangs and drug crimes. The city also says it will enforce its curfews (that will work only if kids are not hanging and gang banging with their irresponsible parents). Oh and a new email address [email protected]. Now if the email address works like the many city officials that I have been consistently trying to contact, well use it and you will see my frustration. They also want people that live within the neighborhoods to call in and report ANYTHING suspicious that you see, the problem with that Mayor Coleman, they are so afraid of retaliation. We need your eyes, we need your ears to tell us whats going on, thats means if you know of criminal activity tell us, if you know the identity of a person that has committed a crime, tell us, these are the Mayors words. I have been doing that for countless of years before and even more diligently after the death of my son and guess where that got me, frustrated with the police department, homicide unit and the gang unit because for whatever reason they dont communicate with each other so watch and see how fast they respond. I dont usually vent like this but I am reaching out to my FB family for help and prayers for our communities. Most of you know I have an organization MOVE, Mothers Overcoming Violence Everywhere. Most of you have supported my efforts by donations and supporting me as I give my testimony from a mothers prospective of loosing one of the MOST important people in my life, my son. God spoke to me in a dream to come forth with boldness, He said, you can hear a lioness roar, but not a peep out of a mouse. I have an amazing youth group that I love as I love my own we have lost a few but gained many. Actions speak louder than words and when you see one walk across the stage graduating, or one of them getting a new job or even one drop clean urine (real talk) that is a milestone to me and them. Sadly we are approaching another summer and the lost youth are already plotting and talking. I was doing as normal a few weeks ago, speaking on the Eastside to a group of young youth both boys AND girls, I was literally in tears just listening to the violence and hatred in their hearts that came out strong and clear in their voices and body language. All this money spent shifting police officers from unit to unit, installing cameras and etc, what ever happened to PAL or places that they can go to do and/or hear something positive. We are in the works of getting a facility for our youth that are interested in making a difference in their lives as well as helping their peers get off the streets. MOVE has helped more kids get off the streets by just giving them our cell numbers, texting them or contacting them via FB, KiK, Instagram, Twitter or whatever means necessary, every hour, everyday, weekly, what ever it takes to let them know, Hey Im thinking about you, Im proud of you for going to school or whatever positive reinforcement is needed for that child because they all lack something different. I have children of my own I dont have to do this but its my passion, my ministry, and above all my son would want me to do this.
