Dear Members, We would like to bring to your attention the International Youth Day: Addressing Mental Health Video and Photo Contest currently being sponsored by the World Movement for Democracy (WYMD) and IRI’s Generation Democracy program (GenDem). GenDem is an IRI initiative to engage, empower and connect youth around the world and allow them to share their experiences and ideas. Youth with mental health disabilities are often excluded from civic and political participation. Following this theme, the contest is open to youth ages 18 through 25, who wish to contribute to the discourse on mental health. To enter the contest please submit: • A two minute video explaining what you have done, what you are doing, or what you would like to do to promote social inclusion and the rights of people with mental health disabilities. OR • A photo with a caption conveying what you have done, what you are doing, or what you would like to do to promote social inclusion and the rights of people with mental health disabilities. The winners of the contest will be flown to Washington D.C. in October 2014 for a meeting with Maina Kiai, UN special rapporteur on the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association. The winning videos/photos will also be published on the WYMD and GenDem websites.
