Dear Moms and Dads, With summer approaching and the warm - TopicsExpress

Dear Moms and Dads, With summer approaching and the warm weather right on our doorstep, the tendency for children to lose focus on their martial arts training can be very common. Wanting to stay out and play with my friends is probably the biggest reason a child will give for not wanting to attend class on any given night. It is important to understand that this does not mean that our kids are no longer interested in karate, but rather, they are simply preoccupied with another activity that is keeping their attention. Once the students are actually here in class, they have fun as usual and don’t regret coming after all. Sometimes kids just need a little motivation from their parents to get here. We like to think of this as “PARENTAL GUIDANCE” and not “forcing.” Hopefully, as parents, we realize that it is our responsibility to keep our children focused on and involved in activities such as martial arts which provides life-long benefits, as opposed to just “hanging out” with their friends. The martial arts was not designed to be a seasonal activity, but rather a consistent way of life! The difference between the average person and a martial artist . . . is that the martial artist with a Black Belt attitude does not see obstacles as barriers, but rather as hurdles! Please remember, however, that a social environment at home is also very important. What we are trying to instill in our children is a BALANCE of fun and games and playing at home along with the values they will learn at karate. We would not allow our children to stay home from school if they didnt feel like going, or stop other things that we knew were best for them. Karate is not just another extra-curricular activity like soccer or baseball, but one that teaches family values, goal setting, and direction in life. With your support and guidance, I am sure we will have a very successful summer at Extreme Karate !!! Please check the calendar for the fun activities we have planned for the summer. Thank you for your continued support, Shihan Dennis
