Dear Monson Prayer Warriors, CommUnity Members and family in Christ, I am asking for prayers tonight for Monson CommUnity Church and our Keith Giden CommUnity Outreach program for the West Side of South Bend, IN. This past Sunday night, the Lead Team (church council) approved providing the church financials to the Landlord of the locations we are desirous of using for Community Outreach and new ministry on Western Ave. The combined space is 4,000 sq. ft., one level with a divider between the 3,000 sq. ft. side and the 1,000 sq. ft. side with plenty of parking all on the same level. Each side has facilities and allows us to grow along side of the Martin’s Supermarket store. The landlord has already drafted a lease for the units, after the endorsement of Martin’s Supermarket and a check of other suitors for the building. We are at the second phase of the process. As this has been taking place, we have applied for a Grant from the UMC (and looking at others) that is awaiting various approvals for the plan that we submitted. The plan presents a different looking church and Outreach Center that are desirous of loving others as we share Christ with them. Our Church development request has to be approved by the DS and the District building team and then it goes to the Bishop and Cabinet for approval. Ed Fenstermacher from Church Development has already approved it. After that we are not sure what will happen. We are also looking for financial partners and other grant giving agencies who want to help make a difference on Western Ave as we grow a New Hispanic ministry to bring Christ to the 5,000 Hispanic people who are living on Western Ave by the shopping center. In the meantime the Landlord is asking for more data on contributions and a list of pledged funds to make sure we will not fail in what we know God is calling us to do. This evening I ask for your prayers. Monson was started in 1880, with the present Monson Church building being built in 1884 by the Studebaker family as they were building wagons in South Bend. From its inception the desire was to bring Christ to all people. In 2013 we have the opportunity to take that pledge to the next level. Today we have the responsibility to do what God is asking us to do: Share Christ with everyone we meet. Because of this I am asking you to take a moment between tonight and tomorrow and think about your commitment to Christ. God is counting on us to do His Will. Like you, Kim and I have had the same economic hardships. I know how tough it can be. But because we trust God, we decided to remain faithful to church and the other faith based organizations we support. I have also told our Staff Pastor Parish Team (and the Lead Team this past Sunday) I will give up my yearly salary in order to do what God is calling us to do. I believe in God and the power of Christ. I believe that we have been given the opportunity to fix wrongs in the world and to change lives. I believe that as serious Christians we will answer God’s call. This morning a wise person asked me why a church 133 years should do this. I told him because as a church we have come through the desert and we see and know the promise of Salvation through Christ – we are not afraid of making and fulfilling our commitments. I truly pray that you believe this. So I am asking each of you to prayer in the next 12 hours. After your prayer time listen to what God is saying. Please feel free to call or email me if you are not sure. If after your prayer time you are able to give more to God’s work, I ask you to send a note to prayerconcerns@monsonchurch and put the following in your email – Yes! I want to be the body of Christ Along with your name. I hope we truly believe the words in the Lord’s Prayer -Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done! Time for Prayer, Pastor Tim pastor@monsonchurch cell 574-850-7053
