Dear Nigerian Feminists, Atheists and Activists... I get that - TopicsExpress

Dear Nigerian Feminists, Atheists and Activists... I get that you so are so badly pained and traumatised by what I go through daily at the hands of patriarchial society, organised religious beliefs and the government of the day, but I am worried that your worry is beginning to make you sound more like the people I strive to distance myself from, more like the status quo I crave a change from. Why would I listen to relationship advice that has described me as being stupid, ignorant, foolish etc? Why would I want to align myself with a non religion that thinks I am just an idiotic blockhead who can be corrected by being yelled at? And really, the government is trampling all over my rights and the only way you can get me to see that is by calling me stupid, foolish, gullible, ignorant etc... Maybe I missed the memo, tell me again how that is going to endear me to you? How does positioning yourself as a foul mouthed bully advance your cause? How would your making me feel like I have to tread with caution around you or agree with your opinions or else... work for the greater good? I get into conversations with either of the three and start to think, Oh no, I shouldnt have. Na only me waka come here today o. Seriously, you are beginning to contend with the feudalistic hegemonies you seek to replace and might even beat them to their tyrannies in the long run. I have some free advice for you. Seriously, take a chill pill. Matter of fact, take 2. We can all see that government is shafting us up the backside, we all want change but when we look to the change we seek and begin to remember Animal Farm, we think errrr... we might be better off waiting for now. Biko, honestly, tone it down. And for the extremely religious ones, the borderline fanatics, the ones who jump the judge not portion of their holy books and intend to stamp their own brand of religion on everything and everyone, like the igbos would admonish, na kwa e check i o! Take a very good and long look at ISIL et al. But for the swords and daggers, there goes you! Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone is entitled to at least one. Like your belly button, they may occassionally stink, but you do have a right to it nevertheless. It is your choice to clean out your belly button and stem the stink, or carry on with it as it is.
