Dear Parents, In light of the unfortunate incident that took place recently, it is natural for you to be anxious and concerned with regards to the safety of your children. We would like to clarify and throw more light on the situation. A complaint was registered by a parent of a nursery child. Our heart goes out to the child and the parents; the trauma that they must be going through is unimaginable. We are cooperating completely with the police investigation. We will extend all our resources and cooperate in every manner possible. We stand by the girl and her parents and continue to extend our complete support to the police. Please find below our responses to some of your key concerns: What is the status of safety and security? a. The Commissioner has confirmed that the Jalahalli Branch school is very safe for our students. b. Some key excerpts from his meeting with the parents which happened yesterday evening ( 25th Oct 2014) at the Jalahalli Brach are below i. “…there is no need for parents to have any sense of insecurity in their (parents) mind…” ii. “…the parents need not have anything to worry, they can safely send their children to start studies on Monday onwards…” iii. “..from safety point of view I am assuring that everything is under control…” iv. “…Parents need not be insecure and I am personally reassuring that there is no need to be worried…” v. “…Am happy to tell you today I came to know from his DCP security who has personally studied the place and said that 80% of what is required to be done they (School Management) have already completed…” (before the Oct 31stdeadline) vi. “…requests that have been put up( with regard to additional measures of safety) by the parents have already been agreed and (will be) implemented by the management..” vii. “…There will be police protection there near the school for some time.” Please find below our actions with regard to safety of our students at your branch : c. We have implemented almost all the requirements as directed by the police (after the incident in another school in July 2014).We will complete all the measures by October 31st 2014 d. We are also considering the following measures to beef up our current security measures: i. All male non teaching staff members restricted to office area with no access to classrooms. In case they need to enter the classroom area, they will do so along with a female staff. ii. We will have 1 dedicated female security guard for each block. iii. We will ensure that no class room can be locked from within. iv. No construction/ repair work will happen during school hours. v. 100% of the school including classrooms will be under CCTV scrutiny and a dedicated person will monitor the footage. vi. CCTV cameras in buses vii. We have submitted all staff documents to the police e. Our Safety Manager, Capt Saibal Ghosh (who was specially appointed after the July 2014 incident) has been given the task of liasoning with various law enforcement agencies. He will also be implementing all additional safety measures that we undertake to implement, going forwards. We are available at the school prior to the opening and after school hours to resolve any queries that you may have. We at Orchids The International School, take safety of each of our students very seriously. Providing your children with a safe and secure environment to learn is a top priority for our school.
